Iranian-backed terrorists in Gaza have launched more than 350 rockets at Israel since Monday night.
Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ)—Iran’s primary terrorist proxy in Gaza—is responsible for the barrage, which has forced schools to close, hospitals to evacuate, and hundreds of thousands of Israelis into bomb shelters.
PIJ initiated these indiscriminate strikes on Israeli civilians after the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) successfully targeted senior PIJ terrorist Baha Abu al-Ata – who single-handedly directed hundreds of terror attacks against Israelis and was planning many more.
Israelis as far north as Tel Aviv and Jerusalem were rushed into bomb shelters at the sound of air raid sirens.
Many of the rockets were intercepted—and countless civilian lives saved—by Israel’s advanced Iron Dome missile defense system, produced with American support. But no missile defense system is perfect.
One of the rockets struck a house in Sderot.
Another hit a major highway during rush hour, just barely missing two cars.
Among those injured in the chaos, an 8-year-old girl was rushed to the hospital in serious condition after collapsing while on her way to a bomb shelter in her hometown of Holon.
America’s elected officials have spoken out in support of Israel’s right to defend itself against these indiscriminate terrorist attacks.
The United States must continue to ensure Israel has the military, political and diplomatic support it needs to defend itself.
